History: Mae Noy has had an extraordinary journey, from a life marked by hardship to a peaceful and supportive role within the herd at the Elephant Conservation Center. She was part of a historic rescue operation led by the Lao government, which intercepted the illegal sale of 13 elephants bound for trade abroad. This unprecedented decision from the Prime Minister’s office redirected the elephants from a life of exploitation to one of protection and care at the ECC.
Despite her early experiences, Mae Noy embodies calm and gentle strength. Known for her distinct irregular tail, she stands out not only in appearance but also for her nurturing, motherly nature. Although she has never had calves of her own, Mae Noy frequently looks after the younger members of the herd, offering them the gentle guidance and reassurance only a matriarch can provide.
Mae Noy has been released into the wild in the Nam Pouy National Protected Area where she enjoys life in a natural environment with plenty of space to roam, forage, and interact with the other elephants.
