Equip the Nursery
Every calf born at ECC is a step towards a wild population again. The first months of a life need the most care.
—The breeding programme
At the start of a life
Put essentials in tiny trunks
Captive elephants in Laos rarely breed: they work too hard and live too far apart. ECC’s breeding programme gives cows the time, the company and the medical follow-up they need to carry and raise a calf.
Your donation funds secure enclosures, attentive caretaking and swift hospital access for newborn calves and their mothers. It also covers the purchase – and sometimes rental – rental of bulls from their owners, to keep diversity in the gene pool of the population.
Safe enclosures
Secure, natural spaces where mothers and calves can bond.
Round-the-clock care
Mahouts and vets who follow every pregnancy and birth.
Genetic diversity
Bull rental for the breeding programme – up to $500 a month.
