Mae Kham

History: Mae Kham came from Thongmixay. She worked in logging industry and about 6 years ago, she mated with a wild elephant in the forest near her village. As a result, she became pregnant. Her owner contacted the ECC staff because he was willing to be part of our baby bonus program. The goal of this initiative was to support with a salary to the owner during the last year of the pregnancy and during the nursing period, since during this time, female elephants cannot work. She walked with her 3 months old calf all the way to the ECC. Her and her calf are being slowly integrated into one of the ECC herds. Her owner agreed to include her in the ECC breeding program, so hopefully she will get pregnant in the near future.

Distinguishing features: Oval cut on the left ear. Her temporal cavities are very pronounced. Lots of freckles on ears and face. She is tall and skinny.
