Environmental Education
Here at the Center, we believe in promoting conservation amongst all ages, but especially within children, after all they hold the future to our sensitive planet. So what better way to engage these creative young minds, to inspire them to become the conservationists of the future than interaction with an endangered species!
The Center works as a place of learning for the children of Sayaboury province and beyond. Organising regular visits for schools gives Lao children the opportunity to learn more about the Asian elephant and how the Center works to protect the species and their critical natural habitat.
A typical visit to the ECC includes meeting the elephant when children can approach these gentle giants, observing the elephants bathing, short respite at our restaurant, followed by a visit to the elephant museum and then a discussion with the mahouts and resident elephant experts.
Environmental education wrapped up in fun activities for the children is the name of the game. Using an entertaining approach, the visit is complete with an overview of the elephant's biology, their role in Asian culture and conservation issues presented by our guides and long term volunteers - after which each child receives a memento of their day at the Center!
For our more mature guests, our elephant museum incorporates a multimedia library allowing those wishing to increase their knowledge the most extensive information source available in Laos. Rest assured the Conservation Center is a place where you will never be left alone with unanswered questions.
All of our staff own a willingness to share their knowledge and experiences with visitors. You will find ALL you want to know about the Asian elephant, their ecosystem and their cultural importance at the Elephant Conservation Center!
