A very doting mother

img_5613Mae Ven rushes into the water at bath time. With her trunk, which can contain up to 10 litres of water, she can refresh her whole body! And spray us at the same time!

When Mae Ven is at the lake with her baby, she keeps out of the water in fear that her offspring slips down in the muddy waters and can't get out. This behaviour is really a sort of "sacrifice" for her who loves the water so much! When Noy ventures alone, he rarely goes beyond a distance of ten metres. Her mom is not worried. She knows that from one minute to the other he will hurry to get back between his mother's legs and grab a teat. Mae Ven does not have much milk as she is not very young, and Noy is already her third baby elephant! Last June, Xang Noy was gently hit by the other cow elephant as he was probably venturing a bit too close... but Mae Ven did not retaliate. Since then, the mahouts are very careful, so that there are no injuries between the residents of the nursery. Jealous mothers, unruly babies... accidents can happen!
