How to get there?
The Elephant Conservation Center is only 8 km from Sayaboury town.
Shuttle service is organised from Green Discovery Office in Luang Prabang's main street (BanVat Xieng Mouane).
If you plan to come by your own means:
- From Luang Prabang:
Drive south along the N13 South road. At about 30 km, in Ban Xieng Ngeun, turn right to Sayaboury. After around 1,5 hours, board the ferry boat to Sayaboury province. There, you are only 30 minutes away from downtown Sayaboury.
- From Vientiane:
Drive north along the Mekong river (turn left passed Wattay airport in Ban Sikhay) to the crossroads just before Sanakham. There, turn right to Paklay. Board the ferry boat to Paklay. Getting to Paklay takes approximately 4 to 5 hours depending on road conditions. Once in Paklay, continue north to Sayaboury (another 3 hours drive).
In Sayaboury: The Elephant Conservation Center is located at the Nam Tien lake, Sayaboury district. Once in Sayaboury town, go southwest. At the airport coming from town, continue to the Paklay Road. After about 5 km, turn right to Nam Tien Reservoir. You can either use our boat (stationed at the riverside restaurant at the end of the road). Or turn right before the golf course and then left before the gate of the police academy. Continue on the forest track until you get to the Conservation Center.
