Elephants staying at the Center are usually there for one of three different reasons:

• The elephants are former logging elephants rescued by the Center. 
• The elephants are pregnant females staying at the nursery awaiting delivery of their baby, or weaning their newborn calf.
• The elephants are undertaking care at the hospital.

Most of the elephants staying at the Center are from Hongsa, Ngeun and Thongmixay districts in the Sayaboury Province.
