Appetite of a giant

img_5524Twice a day mahout Inpeng takes Xang Noy and his mother to bathe in the Nam Tien lake. Xang Noy loves playing in the water, but what he enjoys most is eating!

For two months it has become his favourite pastime. The baby elephant devours all sorts of leaves and bamboo, but his favourite treats remain bananas and sugar cane! Like all children, he loves all that is sweet. Inpeng is careful not to give him too much because Noy is getting a little "Toui" which means "fat" in Lao. The small Xang will continue to suckle his mother for another 2-3 years. The teat of Mae Thong Khoun is an invaluable source of nutrition for this young elephant and Xang Noy suckles it at high speed. His mahout is a true elephant lover. He is very proud of his elephants. For him, Xang Noy is not only potential income, but also his best playmate!
