5At the Lao Elephant Conservation Center, you will have a chance to make a change! Elephants in Laos are traditionally used as beasts of burden, exploited for their strength and agility. In Laos, there is only one conservation programme specifically dedicated to the Asian elephant. This is run by ElefantAsia non-profit organisation in partnership with the Department of Livestock and Fisheries of Laos.

ElefantAsia and the Elephant Conservation Center have entered into partnership. The Conservation Center provides free access to its land to ElefantAsia. And ElefantAsia base their conservation work at the Center. 5% of the Center's turnover is donated to ElefantAsia to support elephant conservation across Laos . This situation is mutually beneficial for both the Center and the NGO.

Visitors at the Center can live an experience offered by no other place in Laos. The Center presenting the opportunity of a true meeting with Laos's most magnificent animal. Here, elephants are kept in their natural environment and feed on natural foods. They are provided with the best medical care available in the country from our team of Lao and international veterinarians that manage the elephant hospital and the nursery.

Visiting the Elephant Conservation Center is a way to support the conservation of this species in Laos

Your visit funds the running costs of the Elephant Hospital and allows mahouts to gain experience with tourists. Reconverting elephants from the dangerous logging industry into ecotourism is one of the Center's goals. Without work for their mahouts, elephants are doomed. It is vital to train young mahouts in tourism and sustainable professional activities rather than seeing them going back into the lucrative but destructive logging business.

Your visit at the Center has a direct impact on the socio-economic situation of Sayaboury mahouts and their families.

You can learn more on the conservation actions run by ElefantAsia at the Center here.
